Day Sixty-Three Photos, Part IV

I wasn't all that surprised to see a train coming since the line was pretty busy, but for once I already had my camera in hand.

Like many cross-country trains these days, this one was pulling mostly containers that could be hauled away by trucks.

I got a good shot of the lead engine.

The middle engine was still painted in Santa Fe colors.

This shot shows how 66 paralleled the BNSF tracks. Incidentally, looking for roads alongside railroad tracks on a map is a great way to locate older alignments of highways.

As busy as these tracks were, it wasn't unusual to see trains going both ways. Here the train above was eclipsed by a westbounder with four engines (the first three similar to  the eastbounder plus a black Norfolk Southern).

I tried to get a picture of this bird perched atop the upturned branch, but by being an instant too late I got a more dramatic shot of the bird taking off.

The bird in flight wasn't as interesting, but the different colors of the ridges in the background were.
