Like many cross-country trains these days, this one was pulling mostly containers that could be hauled away by trucks. |
I got a good shot of the lead engine. |
The middle engine was still painted in Santa Fe colors. |
This shot shows how 66 paralleled the BNSF tracks. Incidentally, looking for roads alongside railroad tracks on a map is a great way to locate older alignments of highways. |
As busy as these tracks were, it wasn't unusual to see trains going both ways. Here the train above was eclipsed by a westbounder with four engines (the first three similar to  the eastbounder plus a black Norfolk Southern). |
I tried to get a picture of this bird perched atop the upturned branch, but by being an instant too late I got a more dramatic shot of the bird taking off. |
