Capitan Photos, Part III

Appropriately, a tree stood over Smokey's final resting place.

When  Smokey died after a long life at the National Zoo in Washington, he was returned to Capitan to be buried in the mountains where he was born.

This is the plaque on the rock  above.

The smaller, older Smokey Bear museum building featured Smokey artwork and offered  a variety of souvenirs for sale.

The old museum building was a log cabin. In the foreground on the left one can see  how Smokey was discovered--clinging to a charred tree.

As I rode out of Capitan, Smokey reminded me to be careful.
