Roswell, NM Photos, Part VII

This dramatic sculpture of legendary cattle driver John Simpson Chisum was the centerpiece of the  downtown plaza across from the courthouse.

Here's another angle on the " Cattle King of the Pecos."

Lastly, here's a shot of the cow's behind. I was just taking a picture of Chisum's  other side, but the cow's hindquarters ended up right in the middle.

The City of Roswell preserved this vintage downtown Conoco station to use as a visitor center.

Aside from all the alien silliness that engulfed Roswell, the town had a legitimate, often overlooked connection with space. Pioneering rocket builder Dr. Robert Goddard launched his first rockets here in the 1930's. Goddard used this  launch tower from 1930 to 1942.

Here is a view of the rocket and memorial tablet.

Appropriately, the planetarium adjacent to the city museum was named in Goddard's honor.

The Southwestern archictecture of the  Ginsberg Music building was striking. I also liked the appearance of  the trees against the gray sky.
