Capitan Photos, Part I

Naturally, Smokey graced Capitan's welcome sign.

A metal Smokey like the one at Smokey Bear Vista was beside another welcome sign near an antique store.

US 380 became Smokey Bear Boulevard in town.

Here was my home for the night, the Smokey Bear Motel.

Here is a frontal view of the carved bear next to the motel sign.

The Smokey Bear Motel featured hand-made furniture from a Hondo artisan. It was a welcome change from the cookie-cutter pressboard stuff in almost every other place I stayed. Notice the bicycle in the mirror.

This rocking chair was as comfortable as it was handsome and sturdy.

This nifty silhouette of Smokey with a bandaged paw stood atop the roof of the Smokey Bear Restaurant.
